Self catering and sailing holidays on the River Guadiana

What else is there to do?

When you no longer wish to sit round the pool, reading and relaxing here are some more energetic activities you can indulge in.

Boating on the Guadiana.

Sailing

The Guadiana river is our neighbour and we have installed a floating pontoon to give us easy access for our river borne activities. Our guests have the opportunity to explore the Guadiana under sail in a 10 m sloop. The yacht, a Jeanneau Sunlight 30, is very easy to handle and particularly good upwind. She has all the safety equipment to make for relaxed sailing and a powerful diesel engine to get back home at the end of the day. There is a good anchor to allow for lunch time stops, while a dinghy and outboard allows you to explore ashore.

Suitably qualified guests, written proof, minimum ICOC, will be required, can use her within the boundaries of the river, which are Ayamonte down river and Pomerao upriver and during daytime only.

Experienced sailors can take Straeker for longer cruises within the confines of  the river; spending time in our shore based accommodation and the balance afloat.

Throughout the year there are a number of regattas and as Steve is a keen racing sailor you could time your stay to join him and experience the excitement and thrills of close quarters sailing.

Rambling
Our setting is in rolling gentle hills along the banks of the river. There is ample walking of modest difficulty either into the hills or easy going along the river bank. We can advise on possible routes and a couple of maps are shown on the right.

Bird watching
Varied throughout the year and always different, our peaceful location means that we are home to many species often not seen in the UK, these include, the azure winged magpie, golden oriole, hoopoe, jay, kingfisher, eagle owl, golden eagle, buzzard, bee eaters and many more.

Fishing
For our house guests this is free from our own pontoon with barbell the most likely catch although the river also contains catfish and carp. Bring your own rod and when you want to go further afield take the rib, take a packed lunch and try your luck elsewhere. A license is required and we can arrange this for you.

Meditation and chilling out - absolutely free

Bike and kayaks can be rented by the day or week.: POA

Beaches

The Atlantic is less than and hour away and we have some of the most fantastic beaches. Wide clean and stretching for miles all the way from Cape St Vincent to Gibraltar. Try Isla Canela and Isla Christina first.

Horse riding
The countryside offers great opportunities for horse riding and hacking. There are several centres locally and prices vary, so if some equestrian activity appeals let us know and we can arrange it for you.
